Dear CEOs (of Startup and Series X funded),
Almost all of the time, the reason you’re missing quota on the sales team is lack of leadership in these roles (CRO, CGO, CBO, VP/Head of Sales). Very rarely is there any other person to point the finger at. It’s a hard lesson to hear but I just saved you a $300k salary and the people under them that were trained and quit. So I’m calling this open letter my Startup CEO Advice.
There’s a lot of amazing employees out there that could thrive but they are just under bad management that gets caught up in their title and gets a big ego and don’t have true leadership and execution skills. And what I have found to often be true is honestly they don’t know how to grow a sales pipeline from scratch to save their life. Cause they’ve never done it before!
The shareholders will be scratching their heads soon as they miss quota again. And when these role types feel the pressure of the chopping block, they yell at their SDRs and AEs but, your funnel is empty because you made the wrong leadership hire.
